The general objective of this course is to introduce and examine the key aspects of the law in English that are relevant to providing corporate and legal advice. The course focuses on developing specialized vocabulary across various areas of the law, reinforcing essential rules of English syntax and grammar, and practicing the drafting of legal texts in English. The course also explores selected legal institutions within different fields of law in common-law jurisdictions.

➤ To become familiar with legal concepts in certain common-law jurisdictions.
➤ To know the specific legal vocabulary in English of the areas to be covered.
➤ To facilitate the understanding of certain common legal texts in English.
➤ To analyze the drafting of certain clauses common in international business.
➤ To provide useful drafting tools in English.
➤ To encourage writing in English with classroom practice.
➤ To promote critical reading of legal texts in English, with emphasis on the differences between the legal systems involved.
The course is aimed at all lawyers who need to use legal English, certified or sworn translators specializing in legal texts, and advanced law students interested in deepening their legal English knowledge.
We expect students to have an upper-intermediate level of English, so as to make sure that they will be able to take full advantage of the course.
This course is taught online in 16 sessions of 3 hours each. The total course load is 48 hours.
