About the University
Mag. Julián Rodríguez
Rector
"We are an Argentine university with a regional focus in Latin America, and we aim to change the social reality of our surroundings."
We are convinced that it is the people who
They bring about change in organizations and social structures, respecting the centrality of the individual and ethical principles. This means that through our own university work—teaching, research, and transfer—we aim to train excellent professionals with a deep commitment to social transformation and, at the same time, a profound conviction.
for being better people as a driving force for change.
We will achieve this with the collaboration of the entire university community: students, graduates, professors, administrative staff, along with the companies and social organizations with which we interact, and all the people and institutions that share our passion for fulfilling our mission.
As a university institution, we aim to serve society by seeking truth in all its dimensions, through the development and transmission of knowledge with a universal vision.
This broad perspective of reality motivates us to open ourselves to others and foster the interdisciplinary spirit characteristic of university work, and a work environment that favors the interrelationship of people.
Day by day, we build a community of academics, professionals, students, and graduates within a framework of intellectual freedom, responsibility, cultural diversity, and respect for others; where many people who think differently put their knowledge to the test to generate ideas that have the potential to quickly reach society.
At the heart of our university mission is the individual, the goal of all our teaching, research, educational transfer, medical care, and university outreach activities.
Our humanistic vision leads us to focus on training in virtues with a professional and social meaning; virtues such as honesty, friendship, hard work, effort, and a constant desire to learn.
In this way, we aspire to ensure that the personal talent of our community members is accompanied by intellectual, social, and public leadership to propose a more humane contribution that transforms society. We promote collaborative work between the university and various stakeholders at the local and international levels, creating an environment that is constantly learning and contributing.
Our Christian identity invites us to identify with the love Jesus teaches us in the Gospel, and with the freedom He himself has given us. From this perspective, we seek harmony between faith and reason, responding to the concrete problems of today's world.
We understand the dignity of each person according to their transcendent destiny in life. For this reason, we offer Christian formation activities that nourish the spiritual dimension of individuals, in a climate of personal freedom and respect for people of different faiths. We encourage the ability to ask for forgiveness when we make mistakes and to forgive others, knowing how to understand and put ourselves in the other's shoes. We seek to generate a culture of encounter by being open to the problems and desires of others. We reason together with those who think differently to establish a fruitful dialogue among all.
We foster solidarity through volunteering among members of our university community, especially to help those in vulnerable situations.
We promote human rights such as life, health, education, family, social justice, environmental protection, and the pursuit of the common good, among others, always within an inclusive environment where people's ideals are respected.
Saint Josemaría inspired the creation of the Universidad AustralHe encouraged us to ensure that universities are responsive to the needs of all people and that they are a space for exchange and understanding, training citizens willing to build a more just society.
With the same initial impetus, today Opus Dei assists the University in incorporating Christian principles into its teaching, its content, and even its management.
One of the main messages promoted by Opus Dei is to enrich the meaning of life by finding God in daily work and placing it at the service of others.

Opus Dei
The values of the Universidad Austral They stem from the Christian vision of culture and the world, which includes: the dignity of each person, their integral development, respect for life, the importance of the family, the just equality of all, helping those most in need, considering ethical principles in professional work, the primacy of charity, freedom and peace.
To ensure this Christian orientation, the Prelature of Opus Dei provides assistance to the University. The educational community—made up of the faculty, administrators, non-teaching staff, students, and graduates—promotes, shares, or at least respects the values inherent to the educational work that responds to its mission.
El Opus Dei It is a personal prelature of the Catholic Church, which has the unique pastoral and apostolic task of promoting the encounter with and following of Jesus Christ in everyday life, spreading the ideal of holiness throughout the world, in professional work, and helping to discover the greatness of ordinary occupations. This message is addressed to all men and women, without distinction of profession, social status, race, etc. The faithful of the Prelature, conscious of their Christian vocation, strive through their free and responsible personal and social action to shape society according to the teachings of the Gospel.
El Opus Dei It was founded on October 2, 1928, by Saint Josemaría Escrivá de Balaguer, and was erected in 1982 as a personal prelature, a figure envisioned by the Second Vatican Council for "the accomplishment of peculiar pastoral tasks in favor of different social groups in certain regions or nations, or even in the whole world." In the same Apostolic Constitution "Ut Sit", John Paul II appointed the Servant of God, Monsignor Álvaro del Portillo, as the first prelate of the Opus Dei.
The connection between the Universidad Austral with the Prelature of Opus Dei If we consider it from two perspectives: one from the civil-legal perspective and the other from the Christian spirit that animates it. This dual approach allows us to see that the following statements are complementary:
- The University belongs to a civil association
It is an initiative of a fully civil nature, promoted by ACES, in accordance with the free initiative of a group of people - some belonging to the Prelature of Opus Dei– which set out to “develop an organic synthesis of human culture that integrates the dispersion of specialties into the unity of knowledge, illuminated and enlivened by the Catholic faith” (Article 2 of the Statute of the Universidad AustralACES and the University directors it appoints are solely responsible for its management: compliance with the established objectives, mission and values, economic operation, the teaching provided, the study plans, research systems and methods, etc. - La Universidad Austral It is a work of apostolate of the Prelature of Opus Dei
This is an initiative of social content and apostolic character, carried out by faithful of the Prelature together with other people who are not, in which the Opus Dei guarantees the spirit that animates it through Christian formation and priestly care.
In this regard, the Prelature appoints the chaplains who offer spiritual care at the University; approves the appointment of professors of theology, ethics, philosophy and other subjects related to Catholic doctrine; and inspires university work, ensuring that the spirit of Opus Dei Encourage their life and activities by fostering love for the Church and the Pope, always with full respect for freedom of conscience. Among the corporate works are schools, universities—more than 10 worldwide, in addition to the Austral University—centers for the advancement of women, medical clinics in underdeveloped areas or countries, schools for farmers, vocational training institutes, student residences, cultural centers, etc.
