On September 13th - Librarian's Day - the new library space at the Buenos Aires headquarters was inaugurated , with the presence of several authorities: Dr. Marcela Pizarro, Dean of the Faculty of Communication; Specialist Susana Urrutia, Vice-Rector of Students and Extension; Mag. Luis García Ghezzi, General Secretary; and Liliana Luchi, Coordinator of Austral Libraries.

The space – blessed during its opening by Father Santiago Caucino – was designed as a study hall for both students and professors of the University. It has 90 square meters of covered space, and plans are underway to add a 20-square-meter open-air terrace next year.

Fernando Ruiz, a professor at the Faculty of Communication, shared a few words about this place he frequents: “Many of us have enjoyed a book in recent years called 'Infinity in a Reed' by Irene Vallejo. It's a true ode to books and reading. She beautifully recounts the history of the Library of Alexandria. And I have the impression that the very origins of this university are intertwined with the history of building the library. Over the last three decades, its journey has been remarkable. It has always had a great team. Without that team, I feel the heart of the university would have shrunk a little. Wisdom is the interconnection of knowledge, and the library is, to a great extent, that: interconnection.”

And to conclude, Ruiz highlighted: “Libraries function to receive. Among all the libraries I visited, two particularly caught my attention and made a lasting impression: the Library of Navarre and the Library of the Universidad AustralThere's a real service and a willingness to help. I'm always impressed when a new user comes to the library and is blown away.

The main objective of Bibliotecas Austral is to provide service and this new space adds to improving the experience of its users every day.
