El Consortium of Hemispheric Universities (HUC), which brings together thirteen institutions from across the continent, is strengthening university cooperation at its General Assembly, which is being held from September 29 to October 1 at the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), Brazil.
For three days, sustainability, public health, bioeconomy and social inclusion will be part of the agenda for discussions.
The rector of the Universidad Austral, Mag. Julián Rodríguez - who officially assumed the presidency of the Consortium at the opening of this General Assembly - He emphasized that the focus is on collaboration, both academic and in research:
“The HUC consortium is unique, as it brings together a small group of top-tier universities from across the Americas, from Canada to Argentina, to work on issues that affect us all. We are pleased to meet for the first time in Campinas.”".
Rodríguez emphasized that HUC projects generate concrete actions. "One example is the Student Dialogues program, in which we virtually bring together students from different universities to discuss topics related to their lives, the student situation in their countries, and their goals. Through workshops led by professors from various HUC institutions, students discuss global challenges and develop innovative proposals within an international community."
In his inaugural address, the HUC president emphasized that our times are marked by interconnected challenges—from climate change and public health crises to social inequalities and the erosion of democracies—that demand universities be more active and socially engaged than ever before. In this context, the HUC presents itself as a vital forum for promoting collaborative responses, with a focus on sustainability, responsible research, and social innovation.
For its part, Mag. Ana Galiano, Vice-Rector for Outreach Universidad Austral, officially assumed the role of head of the Secretariat of the ConsortiumThis amplifies the challenge of expanding the university's focus on entrepreneurship and innovation through this American network.
