Training leaders with values
Mission
The School of Politics, Government and International Relations was founded in 2015 with the mission of making a decisive contribution to improving the institutional quality and public and social management of Argentina and the region by conducting research, teaching, training, and transferring knowledge related to public policies and ensuring the proper integration of our countries into the global arena.
“It's not the laws we need to change; it's the people, the things (…) But, as long as no other pieces than the current ones are used to build our political edifice, as long as our political reforms are nothing more than new combinations and permutations of the same things that exist today, you will achieve nothing radical, serious, or fruitful.”
– Juan Bautista Alberdi
Words from the Director
– Dr. Alfonso Santiago
In 2015 we launched the School of Politics, Government and International Relations, whose mission is “To contribute decisively to the improvement of institutional quality and public and social management in Argentina and the region, through research, teaching, training of people and transfer activities linked to public policies and an adequate insertion of our countries in the global scenario.".
Improving institutional quality, improving management quality, and ensuring our country's integration into the region and the world are the three pillars that underpin all the research, teaching, outreach, and knowledge transfer activities carried out by the School of Government.
We define ourselves as a natural bridge between the expert knowledge generated in the different units of the Universidad Austral and the political world and also as strategic allies of the different levels of government in relation to the three objectives stated above.
In 2015, we launched the Bachelor's Degrees in Political Science and International Relations; in 2017, the Master's Degree in Public Policy; in 2020, amid the pandemic, we launched the Master's Degrees in Politics, Law and Environmental Management, and International Relations; and in March of this year, 2023, we launched our Doctoral Program with three areas of focus: Political Theory, Institutions and Public Policies, and International Relations.
Dozens of diploma programs, programs, and workshops have emerged around these formal undergraduate and graduate programs, enriching our educational offerings and allowing us to connect with the various national, provincial, and municipal government bodies in our country and throughout Ibero-America.
In addition to the courses and programs we have mentioned, we have launched the following centers that are now part of our School:
- The International Center for Parliamentary Research, Study and Prospective (CIDEIPP);
- The Center for the Study of Asia (CEA);
- The Center for the Study of Global Governance (CEGG);
- The Center for Regulatory Quality;
- The Center for the Internationalization of Subnational Governments and Social Organizations;
- The Center for Studies, Methodology and Innovation in Public Policies;
- The Sustainable Infrastructure Financing Center.
From these centers, we seek to research, debate, and make concrete proposals to improve our institutional and management quality, allowing us to integrate lucidly into global arenas, replete with opportunities for our fellow citizens and our public, social, and private organizations.
We aspire to be, and are becoming, a clear point of reference in the crucial task of research and training of the statesmen and women that our country and our region demand.
