Dr. Mariano Asla, associate professor at FCB and researcher at IF, presented a paper at the Transhumanism Congress: Anthropological, Ethical, Legal, and Theological Challenges , which took place at Comillas University (Madrid) between May 29 and 31. The presentation consisted of a philosophical defense of biological limits, based on a specific analysis of transhumanist philosopher Zoltan Istvan's proposal to eliminate sleep as a means of extending active and conscious lifespan.
The event featured two of the most prominent figures in the Transhumanist movement, Oxford professors Julian Savulescu and Anders Sandberg. Internationally renowned philosophers such as Juan Arana, Antonio Diéguez, and Elena Postigo also participated. Among the scientific speakers were Dr. Jane Ann Driver, an oncologist, gerontologist, and aging specialist from Harvard University, and Spanish engineer Sara Lumbreras, who addressed the topic of artificial intelligence.
Prior to the congress, Professor Asla gave a seminar on transhumanism for teachers at the Reason and Faith Center of the University of Navarra.
