Discussion groups
It's a common misconception that interdisciplinary dialogue is difficult. This is because so-called boundary issues are complex, because there's a lack of shared understanding among the participants, because the languages of each discipline are very different, and because the biases of each academic, while honing their expertise in a specific area, often diminish their sensitivity to others. All of this may be true, but it's insufficient. In reality, interdisciplinary dialogue isn't difficult… it's impossible. It's impossible because it's not disciplines that engage in dialogue, but people.
In this sense, interdisciplinary discussion groups seek to form a network of people (scientists and philosophers) with a genuine interest in common topics. By fostering an atmosphere of respect and mutual trust, overlapping interests can then naturally materialize into interdisciplinary research projects.
