Two years ago, the Taliban regime recaptured Kaban, the capital of Afghanistan, after more than 20 years. Their last invasion of the city had been in September 1996, an event at which the United States even recognized their sovereignty. This recognition continued until 2001, when, following 9/11 and the regime's refusal to hand over Bin Laden, Operation Enduring Freedom was launched with British support.
