El Profile of the candidate for the Doctorate in Political Science (DCP) Our program aims to produce professionals with sufficient scientific and humanistic training to generate expert, systematic knowledge and facilitate problem-solving in a specialized area of Political Theory, International Relations, and Public Policy. We aspire to train PhDs with a strong capacity to connect their work with different levels and bodies of government, while also possessing the ability to develop professionally in the private sector, both domestically and internationally. Our graduates have the skills and tools necessary to make significant contributions from scientific research to the design, implementation, and evaluation of public policies with national and international impact, thus contributing to institutional and management quality in any institution where they work.
The creation of the DCP is based on both an academic and a social need. From an academic perspective, the School of Government aims to contribute to the generation of knowledge in Political Science by training researchers who meet the highest national and international academic standards. In this vein, the candidate for the DCP program will delve into the foundations and trends of the discipline, the most current debates within its theoretical currents, and will focus on developing a research project characterized not only by the originality of its content but also by its methodological rigor. To this end, work will be carried out in a doctorate that offers candidates the possibility of to interact with outstanding researchers through seminars and workshops, and the opportunity to enrich their research projects through a rich academic exchange between students and professors.
In this line, The DCP positions itself as a key player and a strategic partner for governments at multiple levels, as well as for civil society organizations and international bodies., becoming a knowledge generation laboratory that makes a valuable contribution to the promotion of efficient public policies that guarantee institutional and management quality.
Our proposal is characterized and differentiated from other doctoral programs by its flexibility in coursework and the specificity of the doctoral research process. The intensive coursework takes place over four weeks, spread across two years (February and June), alternating between in-person classes at the Cerrito campus and the Pilar campus. This coursework is complemented by a series of virtual meetings (one per month, between March and November) held on Saturday afternoons. Our doctoral program thus offers an excellent opportunity for professionals already working and with demanding schedules, as well as for international professionals who choose us for their doctoral studies. The program offers three specializations: a) political theory; b) international relations theory; and c) public policy. Each doctoral candidate will choose one of these specializations based on the nature of their research project and area of study.

Compulsory Training Cycle
The Compulsory Training Cycle consists of 150 hours of class and no less than 350 hours of preparing written work.
The structured course (110 clock hours of class time) is divided into seven compulsory subjects, which are taught during the first year of the doctorate:
Once the seven compulsory subjects have been approved and the integrative examination of these subjects has been passed, the candidate for the DCP will enter the semi-structured path, after presentation of the thesis project (Thesis Workshop I).

Tutorial Seminar
The Tutorial Seminar consists of a specialized training program, under the guidance and supervision of a Tutor selected by the Executive Director of the doctorate, which is designed and carried out in a personalized way for each doctoral student.
Its purpose is to provide students without a master's degree with a broad general knowledge of the branch or branches of Political Science, particularly those related to their thesis topic. This tutorial seminar also serves to level the playing field for doctoral students with prior master's or other postgraduate qualifications in their other seminars.
Research
Having passed these compulsory subjects of the structured path of the Compulsory Training Cycle, the candidate for the DCP must present a thesis project, which is developed simultaneously during the course of Thesis Workshop I.
Once the project is approved, the doctoral candidate will begin the dissertation writing process. As part of Thesis Workshop II, they will give partial presentations on the progress of their research.
The doctoral program will culminate with the successful completion of all courses and seminars and the oral and public presentation before an examining board. The selection of the board will be made by the Directorate and Executive Directorate of the Doctoral Program in Political Science, taking into account the nature and subject matter of the doctoral dissertation submitted by the candidate.
1) Interested parties must submit: a copy of their undergraduate degree; a copy of any postgraduate degrees they hold; a photocopy of their ID/Passport as applicable; a letter of intent addressed to the Executive Director; a complete CV and a publication or research paper – no less than 7.500 words – so that their clarity of reasoning and formulation of ideas with scientific criteria and their level of academic training can be evaluated.
2) A personal interview with the Executive Director of the Doctoral Program in Political Science. For applicants who do not reside in the City of Buenos Aires, this interview will be conducted virtually. The purpose of the interview is to evaluate public speaking skills and other indicators that contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the candidate's actual potential to meet the high demands of doctoral studies.
3) The Executive Director will submit the request for the incorporation of doctoral students to the Academic Council and the Council will decide on the admission, which will be communicated in the second half of December.
