On Monday, August 31, 2026, in the Malvinas Argentinas Hall of the Government House, in the City of San Luis, 370 teachers and administrators from San Luis received the diploma that certifies the completion of the first cohort of the Diploma in AI applied to education, a proposal of the School of Education of the Universidad Austral.

Representing the institution were Dr. Santiago Bellomo, Dean of the School of Education; Ms. Karina Brahim, Director of Extension and Transfer; and Ms. Alejandra Vatrano, Academic Coordinator of the diploma program. They were accompanied to the province by 16 tutors who provided personalized support to each participant throughout the program.

In his message, Bellomo distinguished between the power of technology and that which remains exclusively human. He recalled Funes the Memorious , Borges's character capable of retaining every detail of the world but incapable of thinking, to point out that Artificial Intelligence (AI) "has the appearance of thought, but lacks the experience of thinking." That experience—the kind that transforms and helps people grow—is, he affirmed, "what we came to seek with this diploma program." And he praised the commitment of the teachers in San Luis, who "inspire enthusiasm from the very first moment."

The diploma program is organized using a Challenge-Based Learning approach: four practical challenges that guide each teacher to understand what generative AI is, explore its pedagogical uses, assess its limitations, and apply it in concrete projects within their own classroom. The goal is not to train technology experts, but rather educators who integrate AI into their teaching, planning, and daily management with sound pedagogical and ethical principles.

Developed in partnership with the Government of San Luis, the program began in March and now has thousands of teachers in training. The graduation ceremony for this first cohort marks the end of one phase and the beginning of a community of educators who are already implementing these tools in the classroom.
