Research lines

The School of Education's 2023-2028 strategic plan prioritizes three ongoing lines of research: Educational Innovation, Educational Quality and Character EducationEach one with specific sub-lines and a focus on the four educational levels (initial, primary, secondary and higher), according to current or future projects.

Each line is led by a full-time researcher from the teaching staff.

The choice of these lines responds to their relevance to the institutional mission and their connection with key issues on the educational agenda.

In addition, they guide the allocation of scholarships, the design of projects, and participation in funding calls.

Below are details about each line, its references, sub-lines, projects and educational levels in which they have an impact.

Educational innovation

Contact: Dr. Santiago Bellomo

The concept of educational innovation Innovation is often mistakenly associated with the implementation of technology in classrooms. Technology can be an excuse for innovation, or a stimulus, but it does not guarantee innovation in itself. In some cases, it can even hinder it. This line of research on educational innovation analyzes the potential impact of incorporating new technologies in education, as well as the effective results observed in different areas of implementation. It aims to cover a wide range of related topics, from the philosophical analysis of the relationship between technology and innovation to issues linked to the professionalization of teaching, the transformation of pedagogy, innovation management, and the incorporation of new assessment tools.

Change management in Argentine universities: the impact of the pandemic and post-pandemic period on university organization. Case studies.

The COVID-19 outbreak has changed the world in an unprecedented way. Although many higher education institutions worldwide were able to shift to online education quickly and did their best to ensure continuity of teaching, the digital divide and a lack of preparedness for virtual teaching have exacerbated educational disparities and created acute social unrest, especially among vulnerable students (UNESCO, 2022). The pandemic has highlighted the need for substantial changes in change management models at universities to ensure their capacity for response, recovery, and innovation. In this regard, this research will shed light on the complexities of change management in universities during the COVID-19 and post-COVID-19 eras, providing conceptual frameworks and concrete tools for quality, inclusive management that seeks to preserve and enhance the three missions of the university: producing knowledge, educating people, and being socially responsible.

It is biennial (2024-2025). It is part of the career path modality.

Character education

Contact: Dr. Florencia Daura

The development of this line prioritizes evidence-based character education, seeking to establish an alliance between theory and practice, based on scientific rigor and the collection of objective data of a quantitative, qualitative or mixed nature in educational institutions.

From this starting point, the aim is to establish alliances with institutions and interdisciplinary work teams interested in the subject.

Character Education and its impact on educational projects.

Implementation of a mindfulness-based virtual program to promote flourishing, grit, and academic performance in university students

This research project is framed within the area of educational psychology with the general objective of studying the effect of a mindfulness-based virtual program on flourishing, grit, and academic performance in university students.

The approach to constructs is based on an emerging concern at the higher education level that refers to fostering in future professionals not only the acquisition of theoretical and technical disciplinary knowledge, but also the capacities, skills, and/or character strengths with which they can achieve greater flourishing and make positive contributions to society (The Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues & The Oxford Character Project, 2023). Therefore, its study aims to safeguard aspects that affect the personalization of the teaching and learning process, particularly as reflected in the ideals and pedagogical project of the Universidad Austral.

During the development of the project, a predominantly quantitative, pre-experimental approach will be adopted, with a pre-test and post-test design with a single group, organized in three stages (1. Application of questionnaires; 2. Development of pedagogical intervention; 3. Application of questionnaires) and in which undergraduate students from the programs taught by the Universidad Austral.
