On Tuesday, May 7th, the book presentation took place at the Cerrito headquarters. “Edutubers: teachers on screen” by Francisco Albarello from the Faculty of Communication of the Universidad AustralFrancisco Arri and Ana Laura García Luna from the University of Salvador. The discussion was moderated by Dr. Florencia Daura, Director of Research at the School of Education of the Universidad Austral.
This work, as if a continuation of his previous book "Booktuber," is an introduction to the phenomenon as a new opportunity to reflect on the nature of education as we enter the first quarter of the 21st century. It also offers enriching insights into the practice and communication inherent in the educational act, particularly regarding the role of edutubers in the teaching and learning process.
The coronavirus pandemic marked a turning point in the relationship between education and the digital world. However, various educational experiences through digital media—undoubtedly amplified by the pandemic—had already been emerging for some time. This is the case with edutubers, teachers who publish explanatory videos on YouTube about a wide range of topics. To study this phenomenon, the authors and experts in Communication, Education, and Digital Media spoke in depth with eight Argentine edutubers. Based on these conversations—and their integration with a significant and up-to-date body of theory—the authors are able to describe a teaching and learning modality that incorporates traditional practices and is transmitted through new channels.
Through a colloquium guided by profound questions, the authors of the work elaborated on various aspects that intersect with teaching work.
The activity was conducted in a hybrid format, combining in-person and synchronous online participation, and included a dedicated time for participants to ask questions. Among those present were Marcela Pizzarro, Dean of the Faculty of Communication, Dr. Damián Fernández Pedemonte, and Victoria Tonelli, both professors in the same academic unit.
Representatives from other academic units also attended. Universidad Austral and from other universities.
