Teaching geometry: from drawing to figure and from figure to drawing

Start date:

23.09.2026
Duration: 6 meetings — from September 23 to October 28, 2026, every Wednesday from 18:00 p.m. to 20:30 p.m.
Modality: Online

Geometry as a territory for thinking

Teaching geometry is much more than teaching shape recognition: it's about guiding students through the transition from perception to argumentation and proof. This journey, from drawing to representation and from representation to drawing, is one of the most challenging transitions between elementary and secondary school.

This module is part of the University Diploma in Mathematics Teaching and is oriented towards the analysis of the teaching of geometry as a privileged field for the study of critical transitions between perceptual, graphic and theoretical forms of mathematical work, particularly relevant in the passage between primary and secondary school.

Why take the course?

Course 3. Image 1
You work on a key transition in schooling
The transition from perceptual to theoretical concepts in geometry encapsulates many of the challenges of changing levels. This module provides you with tools to support this transition in the classroom.
Course 3. Image 2
You teach geometry on paper and in dynamic environments.
You analyze the place of geometric constructions both in the pencil and paper environment and in dynamic geometry environments.
Course 3. Image 3
You apply what you've learned from day one.
It's not just theory: you analyze real geometric problems and design teaching proposals for your students.

Who is it for?

  • Teachers from the final years of Primary Level and the first years of Secondary Level, interested in deepening the work of curricular and pedagogical articulation between levels.
  • Management and guidance teams that support institutional processes related to teaching and articulation between levels.

Extra information

  • The characteristics of geometric problems
  • The role of constructions in teaching in the context of pencil and paper and in a dynamic environment
  • Relationship between drawing, figure, and geometric object
  • Explanation, proof, substantiation and demonstration
  • Definition as an object of teaching: equivalent definitions and the definition-property relationship

100% online

  • 6 live synchronous meetingsEvery Wednesday from 18:30 p.m. to 20:30 p.m., to analyze cases, discuss ideas and work together.
  • Asynchronous activities to delve deeper and apply what has been learned.
  • A flexible modality, designed for active teachers.

Course dates: September 23 to October 28, 2026
