The care of critically ill patients often raises bioethical dilemmas. Doubts arise regarding treatment decisions, particularly concerning the decision to initiate, withhold, or discontinue life-sustaining therapy. Questions also exist about the appropriate extent to which therapeutic efforts should be pursued.
Even with theoretical knowledge, there are certain difficulties in applying it in daily practice: Who should decide? What factors should be considered? To what extent does the autonomy of the patient and their family influence the decision? And regarding the discontinuation of treatment, are there clinical conditions that make it prudent to initiate treatment, even if it is later discontinued? Are there clinical situations that justify denying life-sustaining therapy a priori? Once treatment has begun, are there circumstances that make it reasonable to withdraw it?
Throughout this course we will provide the tools to resolve these bioethical dilemmas.

FREQUENT QUESTIONS:
How can I tell if my degree program has been accredited by CONEAU? For programs with ministerial accreditation, the resolution or file number and the corresponding accreditation year will be displayed at the top of the page. Programs without accreditation issue a certificate to participants, not a degree.
