Clinical Simulation Center
Presentation
The Clinical Simulation Center of the Universidad Austral “Ciro Luis Echesortu” was inaugurated in 2013, thanks to the generous contribution of the members of the Fundraising Committee of the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences (FCB) of the Universidad AustralThe name is a tribute to the father of one of the Committee members, and a friend of Dr. Leonardo Mc. Lean, the second dean of the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences.
Since its inception in 1995, the FCB has had a simulation area for training primarily in procedural skills. Currently, the Center has a structure that works collaboratively with the directors of each undergraduate and graduate program, as well as with the Faculty's simulation representatives and professors.
We are institutional members of the Argentine Society of Clinical Simulation and Patient Safety (SASIM) and the International Nursing Association in Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL).
We seek to promote simulation-based teaching, based on the best available evidence and the standards of clinical simulation societies in Latin America and around the world, by providing a safe environment for participants and fostering professional integrity.
About the Clinical Simulation Center
Located on the 4th floor of the FCB, the Clinical Simulation Center covers a total of 152 m2. Although this is a temporary space, it currently has three areas with separate entrances, which could be used as inpatient areas, consulting rooms, and/or training rooms. Two of these spaces have multi-purpose ducts and central gases, and can perform continuous clinical monitoring. It also has a management area and a storage area for material resources.
The center features high-fidelity full-body simulators for adults, pediatrics, and neonates, as well as a birth simulator and even a premature birth simulator. It also has body parts simulators for acquiring technical skills, such as arms, pelvis, lumbar regions, intubation heads, and CPR torsos, among others.
Our Purpose

To achieve coordinated operations, each program or area interested in using clinical simulation at the University will be able to rely on the advice of the management team.
The facilitators, will be healthcare professionals who intend to implement simulation-based learning. They will be the ones proposing activities for participants. They must have certified basic training in the use of clinical simulation. Basic training is considered to be any simulation program offered by national or international institutions that lasts at least eight hours. They must also participate in annual internal training. Their responsibilities include:
- Present the activity plan to the management team, who will provide advice and evaluate the feasibility of the proposal.
- Sign annually the Commitment to Good Practices in Teaching
Simulation-Based - Submit the corresponding usage request and be responsible for carrying out the activity in the simulation center.
- During the activity, you will be responsible for enforcing the center's rules.
- You must promote the evaluation of the activity.
- Sign the usage regulations annually.
- Deliver the center, after use, in optimal conditions for its use (material sorted, supplies classified according to reuse, etc.)
- Ask participants to complete the exit survey using the QR code available at the Simulation Center.
For their part, they will be considered simulation participants, all those who carry out activities at the Simulation Center. Their responsibility will be:
- Comply with the Center's regulations.
- Sign annually the Commitment to Good Practices in Teaching
Simulation-Based - Sign the usage commitment form annually.
- Show up to the activity wearing a professional uniform (coat, smock, etc.), hair tied back, and personal identification.
- Carry out specific preparatory activities as appropriate (reading guides, protocols, videos, checklists, etc.)
- Complete the exit survey using the QR code available at the Simulation Center.
To carry out activities in the Simulation Center and ensure compliance with best practices, facilitators must demonstrate at least basic training in simulation (a course of at least 8 hours, with a certificate, which cannot be more than 3 years old).
All activities must be carried out without exception at the FCB Simulation Center. The removal of equipment will only be permitted in duly justified cases, authorized in writing by the center director on an ad hoc form.
Activities must have a pre-planned start and end time, which everyone must adhere to. All activities must begin and end punctually to allow for subsequent settling in and proper management of the activity schedule.
- User request and reservation
- The reservation must be made through the platform SimClic.
- If you do not have a user account, you must request one by writing to: centrodesimulacion@austral.edu.ar
- To create your user account, you will be scheduled for an interview with the center's team to learn how it works. Before creating your user account, you must submit the following:
- Accredited training in clinical simulation
- Curriculum Vitae that supports said training
- Commitment signed to good practices in simulation-based teaching
- Certificate of compliance with ethical standards
- Schedule Activity – Requirements
- To schedule an activity, you will need a validated scenario and available in the SimClic library.
- If you already have a validated activity:
- You can make your reservation directly on SimClic.
