OurProject

“Determinism and Indeterminism: From Science to Philosophy in Spanish-speaking Academia” is a three-year project which seeks to promote dialogue among physicists, biologists, neuroscientists, philosophers and theologians in order to study the impact of new findings on issues of determinism/indeterminism in nature.

The big questions of science on indeterminism

The questions that guide our research arise from the changes that contemporary science has introduced in the approach to an issue with a long philosophical tradition: the debate on determinism/indeterminism of nature. The first question seeks to clarify the notion of determinism currently employed by physics, biology and the neurosciences. The second one concerns the

Interdisciplinary research weeks

Interdisciplinary research weeks

Between 2013 and 2015 three “Interdisciplinary Research Weeks” will be held, during which we will discuss topics related to physics, biology and neurosciences. In each Week there will be two plenary lectures open to the general public, one ten-hour seminar for academics as well as a research workshop.

Seminar “Determinism and freedom”

Seminar “Determinism and freedom"

The Seminar gathers together researchers in the fields of science and philosophy with an interest in the interdisciplinary discussion about determinism and the problem of freedom. The meetings are intended to obtain a thematic and terminological understanding across the different disciplines.

Journalistic articles competition

Journalistic ArticlesCompetition

With the aim of promoting the dissemination of scientific knowledge in the massive media, the Project is organizing two competitions for journalistic articles. In each competition two articles will be awarded USD 1,000 each. Deadline for submission of articles: August 31, 2015.
