A methodology based on the scientific method that is already a trend in global technology companies and represents a competitive advantage in Latin America.

In a context of constant change, where certainty is scarce and decision-making becomes more complex, companies are looking for new tools to innovate, adapt, and grow. One of the methodologies that has gained traction in recent years is... business experimentation, understood not only as a validation tool, but as a strategic discipline that cuts across the entire organization.

What is experimentation in business?

Experimentation is the application of the scientific method to business decision-making. It consists of formulating hypotheses, designing tests to validate or refute them, and, based on the results, obtaining actionable insights. This It allows for reducing uncertainty, minimizing risks, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

Unlike traditional models, which tend to rely on intuition or past experience, this approach proposes making evidence-based decisions, even in environments where the cause-and-effect relationship is not entirely clear.

What is?

Technology-based companies such as Amazon, Google, and Netflix have adopted experimentation as a core part of their organizational culture, running thousands of controlled tests each year. However, this practice has spread to other industries and regions, particularly in the United States. In Latin America, and especially in Argentina, it is still This represents a competitive advantage, since few organizations implement it systematically.

This methodology is useful for:

  • Test new ideas without large initial investments.
  • Reduce the margin of error in decision-making.
  • Mitigating the impact of cognitive biases.
  • Identify what works and what doesn't, with concrete data.
  • Addressing complex problems with adaptive solutions.

A structured process in 5 steps

For experiments to be effective, they must be framed within a clear business strategy and an experimentation program. The process can be followed in five steps:

  1. Devise: Generate hypotheses and ideas based on the desired changes in the business.
  2. Prioritize: Select the hypotheses with the greatest potential impact, considering effort, confidence, and relevance.
  3. Design: Plan the experiment, define the variables, the target audience, the test scenarios, and the success criteria.
  4. Run: Implement the experiment under controlled conditions (e.g., in a limited sample).
  5. Analyze and learn: Evaluate the results and make decisions. What works gets scaled; what doesn't, becomes a learning experience.

This cycle allows each area of the company to learn, improve its processes, and provide continuous value to the business.

Experimentation is not just a tool: it is a way of thinking and acting in modern organizations. Its systematic application allows for innovation with less risk, faster learning, and better adaptation to current challenges.
