1st COURSE: MENTAL HEALTH IN PEDIATRIC HOSPITALIZATION (APRIL 6, 2026)
Each course is independent of the others, and you can choose to take just one module or all three, in this or other editions. You will receive a certificate for each course you complete successfully.

The diploma program aims to provide mental health professionals with comprehensive and in-depth training on the medical, emotional, psychological, and social aspects associated with a child undergoing pediatric hospitalization or a chronic illness.
Currently, academia offers a wide range of training opportunities in various aspects of pediatric hospitalization (surgical psychoprophylaxis, psycho-oncology, etc.). However, this course is the first comprehensive training course that offers a broad yet technical perspective on pediatric hospitalization specifically.
We will cover general concepts related to the hospital setting and the characteristics of hospitalized children (module 1). Then, we will address the specific interventions that healthcare professionals can perform, providing concrete tools in each class (module 2). Finally, we will discuss the complexities that arise in our work (module 3).
Completing the three modules completes the diploma program. Those who complete the program may have the option of a one-week in-person observation visit (format to be determined) to the Therapeutic Playroom at Austral University Hospital.
Upon completion of the course, each student will develop a personal project based on the concepts learned, to be applied in their workplace. The projects will be presented to an external jury, which will select the winning project. This winning project will be sponsored by the non-profit organization "El Otro Me Importa" (The Other Matters to Me), which will advise and support its presentation in competitions to facilitate its implementation.
The main objective is to provide in-depth and comprehensive training on the role of a mental health professional in the medical field, specifically within a pediatric inpatient ward.
Pre-recorded classes with narrated PowerPoint presentations, delivered virtually through the virtual campus of the Universidad AustralBetween 8 and 10 classes per module, 60 to 90 minutes each.
