The Anesthesiology Residency at Austral University Hospital began in 2011. Since its creation, it has kept pace with the growth of the hospital and the increase in surgical complexity.
To date, 19 specialists have been trained. The program began with one annual vacancy, which was progressively expanded to two and currently to four residents per year.
Duration: 4 years
Program type: Basic residence
Qualifications obtained:
Upon graduation, the university specialist degree will be awarded by the Universidad Austral because the residency program is accredited by CONEAU. A specialist degree from a CONEAU-accredited program is valid nationwide. Furthermore, the residency program is recognized by the National Ministry of Health, which allows graduates to obtain specialty certification from the Ministry.
Accreditations:
Anesthesiology has driven significant advancements in patient safety and the use of increasingly complex technologies. Graduates of the Austral University Hospital will be competent anesthesia professionals both in and out of the operating room, including general, cardiac, hepatic, thoracic, and transplant surgery. They will always integrate a humanistic and bioethical perspective, considering the patient's pathophysiology and social context. Furthermore, they will receive training for teaching and continuous professional development.

Approximately 90% of the residency graduates have joined the Anesthesiology Department at Austral University Hospital. Those graduates who continued their professional careers outside the institution mostly did so by relocating to other areas. Currently, one graduate practices in Europe.
Residents attend the academic course at AAARBA twice a week in the afternoon. This training is supplemented by weekly classes at the hospital—usually on Fridays—and activities involving reading and analyzing scientific literature. Once a month, the department holds a clinical case conference, during which a real clinical case from the hospital is presented and discussed.
In addition to theoretical classes, residents participate in multiple simulation activities at AAARBA, including PALS and ACLS courses, whose certification must be renewed every two years.
If we had to define ourselves in one word, it would be TEAMWe work with commitment and collaboration, supporting each other and building a strong spirit of camaraderie that is reflected in our daily practice.
