Over the years, our Engineering laboratory went through different stages and never had a permanent name. But last Thursday, August 28th, it finally found one, taking the name of Roberto Mattio , one of the great founders and leading figures of our Faculty of Engineering.
That day, a plaque was unveiled in his honor at an intimate gathering of family, colleagues, and friends. There were anecdotes, memories, smiles, and shared emotion at a warm cocktail reception. Dean Emilio López Gabeiras delivered heartfelt remarks, which were followed by testimonials from colleagues and family members, including Víctor Herrero, Juan Carlos Romero Moreno, Mariana Krause, Alejandro Silvestri, Gabriela Robiolo, Angélica Moya (his wife), and his children.

Roberto was a chemical engineer by training, passionate about teaching, and served as dean from 1997 to 2006. Those who knew him remember his genuine smile, his cordial manner, his attentive listening, and his warmth. He led the Faculty through its early stages during challenging times, when everything had to be built, and he did so with conviction, approachability, and a vision for the future.
He dreamed of a Faculty where every student could experience the full spectrum of engineering, from hands-on experience in the plant and teamwork to academic reflection. Therefore, it's no surprise that today his name is inscribed in a space that symbolizes what he championed: learning by doing, growing through experience, and putting theory into practice.

The laboratory, which until now lacked a definitive name, now has one. And in every project, every practice, every idea that takes shape there, Roberto's legacy will remain present.
