In a meeting with the community of the Universidad Austral, the father Jasson Sempertegui He shared memories of the four years he was Robert Prevost's secretary, today Pope Leo XIVDuring his time as bishop of Chiclayo, Peru, he recounted, through everyday anecdotes, the bond of friendship they maintain to this day.

One quality that stood out was his serenity: “He is very serene. He always goes through life with great calm and prudence. It's incredible.”

Among the anecdotes, he recalled the Pope's passion for cars and how, during his time in Peru, he offered to teach him to drive. The lessons led to several trips out of town and some funny situations, especially when Jasson got carried away with the speed.

Their time together also included soccer games and TV series nights. “When I went out and he was going to be a little late, he would always send a message: 'Wait for me for the next episode,'” she recalled. According to Jasson, his favorites included police and thriller series, such as Prison Break , 24, and Designated Survivor.

Sempertegui highlighted Prevost's ability to listen to others. "He definitely made time for more personal matters," he explained, recalling the long conversations in which he could tell him about his life and family. They also shared moments of prayer and a special devotion to Saint Rita.

The bond continued after Prevost's election as Pope. Sempertegui traveled to Rome to visit him and, during their meeting, asked him for a white zucchetto, as he hadn't been able to find one in the shops. Leo XIV offered him one of the first ones he had worn as Pope and signed it. "I still have it at home," the priest recounted.

The testimony allowed us to learn about a personal side of Leo XIV, through the memories of someone who shared years of work, friendship and daily life with him in Peru.
