Vaca Muerta and the Milei impact

It is widely known that Vaca Muerta is a reality in terms of its potential for oil and natural gas production. Among the obstacles that have hindered its development are macroeconomic measures (such as capital controls) and demagogic policies that distorted the relative prices of energy compared to other consumer goods and services. The mechanism involved extraordinary demand-side subsidies, which had the opposite effect of their intended purpose: to protect consumption. Instead, they fueled the inflationary spiral, further intensified by unchecked political ambitions pursued at any cost. The consequence: an adjustment of relative prices that confronts us with a harsh reality, demanding significant sacrifices from society as a whole.
