Community / Society
Our actions are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), integrating teaching, research, outreach and institutional management, and promoting university education oriented towards the common good, equity and social inclusion.
Training of change agents
All our training efforts are geared towards enabling students to become true agents of change, capable of practicing their profession with social responsibility, ethical commitment and a vocation for service.
With this objective, throughout their university career we promote solidarity actions and social commitment developed from different institutional areas and with the participation of the Academic Units.
These initiatives include:
- The work of the Chaplaincy, which accompanies the integral formation and solidarity commitment of the university community.
- The Solidarity Action program, within the framework of University Life, which coordinates volunteer projects and community participation.
- Cooperative relationships with government agencies and civil society organizations (NGOs).
Transfer and service-learning activities developed from different departments, especially geared towards socially vulnerable sectors.
Through these actions, the Universidad Austral reaffirms its commitment to training professionals capable of making a positive and sustainable contribution to society.
Within this dimension, all the care activities provided by the "Las Lilas" Health Post" and the Family Guidance Center "El Rocio"
"Las Lilas" Health Post
The Las Lilas Health Post celebrated its 20th anniversary; it is a social promotion project of the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences, whose goal is to guarantee and improve the individual and collective health of the community; and promote changes in habits and attitudes related to health care, throughout the year different campaigns and activities are developed.
An interdisciplinary team of professionals and student volunteers works on issues such as: medical care, health promotion workshops, distribution of medicine and clothing, and providing academic support and a sports program. Among the campaigns, we highlight: Warming Hearts Campaign.
Family Guidance Center “El Rocío”
El Rocío, it is created from the Institute of Family Sciences– ICF- , currently receives and serves families from the community referred by the Nuestra Señora de Itatí Health Center, the Municipal Public Schools, the Family Court of the Pilar District, the local Service for the Promotion and Protection of Children's Rights, the Directorate of Childhood and Family, the Ombudsman of the Municipality of Pilar, the National Secretariat of Childhood, Adolescence and Family of the Ministry of Social Development and foundations and non-governmental organizations linked to education, childhood and family.
The community work that the ICF carries out from El Rocío is based on the pillars of education, prevention, and family guidance, with the individual and family as its primary objective.
Also highlighted was the work carried out by the Chaplaincy in the La Escondida neighborhood of Derqui. Throughout the year, various activities were undertaken, including primary school tutoring using the Pilares Association's methodology, ongoing building improvements, catechism classes, clothing drives, and adult workshops.
Within this context, the first San José María Operation stands out, carried out during the winter break with students from various academic programs. In this initiative, students and graduates joined forces to create a community mural, offer workshops for families, and provide learning and recreational activities open to the entire community.
We also collaborate with nearby associations in the area: CECAM, CONIN Derqui, Asociación Pilares, among others.

Graduates in Sustainability

Inclusion
We are an inclusive institution where neurodiversity does not represent an obstacle to university life. Aware of the needs of some students, we work to reduce inequalities, ensuring that no neurodiversity is an impediment to studying at our university. We have accessible facilities for people with mobility disabilities, including special parking, ramps, elevators with Braille signage for people with low vision or total blindness, furniture adapted for motorized wheelchairs in classrooms and dining halls, accessible restrooms, and special programs such as the one carried out in collaboration with the NGO Cascos Verdes (Green Helmets).
