Michael Lamb (Wake Forest University, United States) and Edward Brooks (University of Oxford, United Kingdom), renowned specialists in character education and virtue development, visited the Universidad Austral to participate in the Workshop on Intellectual Virtues, organized by Institute of Philosophy of the University.
The visit by the two academics reflects a growing international interest in the holistic education of the individual, particularly regarding the development of intellectual and moral qualities that enable them to meet the challenges of contemporary society. In this context, they emphasized the importance of educating students capable of combining academic excellence with practical wisdom, critical thinking, and integrity.
Recently, both were interviewed by Infobae Education , where they presented a framework based on seven strategies to develop character in the classroom: virtue literacy, habituation, reflection, exemplary models, awareness of context, dialogue, and friendship with mutual responsibility.
During the workshop held at the Universidad AustralThese issues were addressed from the perspective of intellectual virtues, understood as dispositions that favor the search for truth, deep learning, and prudent decision-making.
