From April 1 to 10, 2025, Dr. Tom Colclough, a researcher at the University of California, Irvine, undertook an academic stay at the Institute of Philosophy of the Universidad Australas part of his qualitative research on intellectual virtues in higher education. During his visit, Colclough interviewed numerous professors involved in the institutional project on intellectual virtues and shared experiences from his research.
During his stay, on Thursday, April 10, he delivered the second Philosophical Seminar of the year, entitled "Can set theorists be intellectually virtuous?", aimed specifically at teachers of humanities subjects. In this seminar, conducted in English and offered both in-person and online, Colclough explored how intellectual virtues can be understood from different philosophical and mathematical perspectives, proposing a novel approach that considers character traits as valuable in themselves for epistemological practice.
The seminar and interviews conducted during the visit strengthen international collaboration in research on higher education and intellectual virtues, bringing new perspectives to the work of the Institute of Philosophy. Universidad Austral This reaffirms its commitment to teacher training and the promotion of academic excellence.
