The brain and the person

“The brain and the person. What new insights do neurosciences bring to our understanding of the human person?” It is a three-year project led by researchers from the Institute of Philosophy of the Universidad Austral (Argentina).

The purpose of this project is to contribute to breaking down the barriers that still impede meaningful interdisciplinary dialogue in Argentine academia. It includes the development of philosophical and theological research with the participation of the sciences, and various activities to increase the conceptual rigor of scientists and the empirical understanding of philosophers and theologians.

Its overall objective is to foster positive, constructive, and productive engagement among neuroscientists, philosophers, and theologians in Argentina, which will be reflected in articles in academic journals and in papers for local and international conferences. The project includes a monthly Interdisciplinary Seminar and two Interdisciplinary Research Weeks, where scientists and theologians will study various issues together in open dialogue. The interdisciplinary discussions will be disseminated through conferences and courses for professors, and through a website, a book, and videos for the general public. We hope that the project will have a significant impact on academia and society by promoting greater interdisciplinary understanding in Argentina and creating a network of scholars willing to advance interdisciplinary research.
