Develop intellectual virtues to investigate major issues
This project seeks to study how to develop intellectual virtues for interdisciplinary research on major issues with the help of science and philosophy. To this end, the following will be achieved: 1) We will seek to identify the intellectual virtues that facilitate successful collaboration between scientists, philosophers, and theologians. These virtues will be philosophically analyzed in the context of virtue epistemology, and a psychometric instrument will be developed to explore them empirically among Latin American researchers. 2) Throughout the project, a postdoctoral researcher will be trained in interdisciplinary research in philosophy and psychology. 3) Up-to-date academic material will be produced in Spanish. 4) Research exchanges will be promoted. 5) A seminar for Latin American researchers will be organized. 6) A strategic study will be developed that considers the specific circumstances of researchers in the region.
On the one hand, this project will help us better understand the intellectual virtues required for collaborative work between science and philosophy to study fundamental questions, and will help us consider how to further develop them among Latin American researchers. On the other hand, the project will also contribute to forging closer academic relationships between Latin American researchers and English-speaking researchers currently working on intellectual character development.
