I lost faith in those yesterdays that we once were

“In the end, you outflanked us on the left.” Sergio Palazzo’s knowing remark to Sergio Massa before the rally in Plaza de Mayo encapsulates the satisfaction with a demand that the labor movement had been pursuing for at least 10 years. It was, coincidentally, in 2013 that Massa, then a candidate for Congress, launched his campaign on the promise of income tax reform and an end to the revolving door between government and the public sector, aiming to crush Kirchnerism in the province of Buenos Aires. Those were the times when Federico Pinedo and Ricardo Gil Lavedra, along with Raúl Zaffaroni, were working on the reform of the Penal Code created by Decree 678 and lamenting the “demagoguery” of the man from Tigre.
