The Institute of Philosophy participated in the workshop “Challenges and Opportunities for Science and Religion in Latin America,” organized by the Ian Ramsey Centre for Science and Religion at the University of Oxford, as the culmination of the three-year project “ Science and Religion in Latin America .” It took place from September 5 to 7, 2013, at Harris Manchester College, Oxford University.

This event brought together researchers in science and religion from Latin America, Europe, and the United States with the goal of planning future research activities and developing strategies in Latin America in the medium and long term.

There were two days of guided group discussions. The first day analyzed the current situation in Latin America regarding science and religion, the prevailing challenges and problems, and the differences compared to the rest of the world. The second day focused on priorities for Latin America and the need to promote more projects in the region, such as the creation of an academic network for work and research in Latin America that connects with the European and North American academic communities. Claudia Vanney and Juan Francisco Franck presented their project, “Determinism and Indeterminism: From Science to Philosophy,” at these sessions. This project was carried out at the Institute of Philosophy of the Universidad Austral.
