The teacher Frida Armas Pfirter, Director of the Department of International Law and of the Diploma Course "Policies for the Sustainable Future of the Sea" at the School of Government of the Universidad Austral, was incorporated, last Thursday, September 8, as a full academic of the National Academy of Law and Social Sciences of Buenos Aires.

The president of the academy, Dr. Juan Carlos Cassagne , presided over the ceremony, offered welcoming remarks, and introduced the acceptance speech delivered by Dr. Jorge R. Vanossi. Both academics highlighted Frida Armas Pfirter's prominent role and the significance of her being the third woman in history to join the Academy.

At the end of his speech, Dr. Jorge Vanossi introduced Dr. Frida, who spoke on "Argentine Interests in the Sea as a State Policy," in an emotional atmosphere, accompanied by academic colleagues, students, judicial magistrates, family and friends.

During her presentation, Frida Armas Pfirter described a consistent path throughout Argentine history, demonstrating how domestic law has coherently aligned with developments in international maritime law. She repeatedly mentioned Admiral Storni in relation to maritime interests, as he was the one who, at the beginning of the 20th century, championed the idea that Argentina should look to the sea and protect its maritime interests as a matter of national policy.

Among the policies listed, he highlighted the work of the National Commission on the Outer Limit of the Continental Shelf, which had Armas as its protagonist and which, thanks to the continuity and efforts of various working groups from different ministries, from 1997 to the present, has been able to fulfill its mission, assumed as a true State policy.
