La Universidad Austral was once again recognized as the first university in Argentina at the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026 (THE WUR 2026), one of the most prestigious and comprehensive assessments in the academic world. It is the second consecutive year that Austral leads among Argentine universities in this global ranking.

The new edition of THE WUR 2026 evaluated more than 1.900 institutions from 108 countries and regionsFrom 18 performance indicators that measure the quality of the teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outreach.

In this framework, Universidad Austral It became established as the highest-ranked Argentine institution and also reached the ranked number 10 among privately managed universities throughout Latin America, reaffirming its academic leadership and sustained growth in research and regional impact.

Dr. Durand added that “The entry threshold for this table is particularly challenging, requiring at least 1000 publications in Scopus in the last 5 years. Only a handful of Argentine universities are eligible, and among them only 4 or 5 private ones, of which only 2 entered this year's table.”

In turn, the Vice-Rector for Research, Dr. Juan B. EtcheverryHe emphasized that, within the framework of the strategic plan, “Austral University is registering sustained growth in the number of publications indexed in Scopus, and especially in their impact, which is measured by the indicator FWCI of 1,57 It is among the highest in the country and above the global average.”

In the indicator of citations per articleThe Vice-Rector for Research explained that, given that several rankings use this to weigh the quality of institutions' scientific output and not just the quantity—which may reflect institutional size or age—the Vice-Rector for Research “Austral has systematically positioned itself around the top 10 of the Latin American region regarding the impact of the publications.”

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings stands out for its comprehensive methodology, which combines objective data on academic and scientific performance with global reputation surveys of specialists and university leaders.
