students of the Master's degree in Environmental Policy, Law and Management (MPDGA) of the School of Government, in charge of Mr. Horacio Paya and mg. Belén AliciardiThey participated, on Friday, August 19, in the “Environmental Navigations” program promoted by the General Directorate of Metropolitan Management and Transfer of Competencies of the Ministry of Government.
This program is intended to promote awareness and dissemination of the progress made by the Government of the City of Buenos Aires in the cleanup of the Matanza Riachuelo Basin through navigation trips on the river.
During the day, the MPDGA students experienced firsthand the actions the City is taking to address existing problems, such as improvements to public spaces and the cleaning and maintenance of riverbanks along the Riachuelo waterfront. The boat trip along the Riachuelo was very interesting. First, to learn what's being done regarding surface cleaning, who's in charge, and how they coordinate with the National and Provincial Governments. Also, for the historical aspect; sailing along the Riachuelo in the City of Buenos Aires is a glimpse into the essence of Buenos Aires itself, because it's as old as the city, and you can see how the city has evolved, with the silos, the logistics docks, the old railway bridges… And from an environmental point of view, obviously, it's a very polluted river, less polluted on the surface than before, but the water has no oxygen, there's no life, the water seems almost alkaline; but it's interesting to see. conscious…” said Augusto Zampini, a student in the Master's program in Environmental Policy, Law and Management.
We thank Federico Gatti Lavise, General Director of Metropolitan Management and Transfer of Competencies, and Sonia Brea, from his team, for such an enriching invitation.
