I have always supported the Mercosur-EU agreement. However, in light of the recurring delays and evasiveness of European environmentalists, I believe the time has come for Argentina to demonstrate leadership to the EU, along with Paraguay and Uruguay, and even better if Brazil joins in. Beyond the EU's environmental claims regarding the Amazon and other issues, it should first be remembered that they, the EU, are one of the main emitters of carbon dioxide, sulfur oxides, and particulate matter—among other pollutants—into the atmosphere.
