In a significant step forward for interdisciplinary research and international cooperation, academics from Universidad Austral They have been selected to develop three projects funded by the HUC Seed Fund 2024, a fund intended to promote studies with social, economic and scientific impact in Latin America.
El Hemispheric University Consortium (HUC) Seed Fund 2024 -consortium of which the Universidad Austral It has been part of this initiative since its founding - selected a total of ten research projects, out of 31 applications, with the aim of fostering inter-university collaboration and addressing global challenges in key areas such as public health, climate change and sustainability, entrepreneurship and innovation, and technology applied to education.
In this edition, the Universidad Austral will have a key role in three of the selected initiatives

El Dr. Marcelo J. Perone, a researcher at the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences and leader of the project on pancreatic islets, highlighted the importance of this initiative: “This possibility opens a very important door for collaboration with colleagues at the University of Miami. The convergence of our expertise allows us to try to answer a key question in the study of diabetes mellitus.”
Meanwhile, the Doctors Dolores del Río and Fernanda FigueroaThose in charge of the impact investing study highlighted the importance of this work for generating concrete strategies in disadvantaged communities: “The funding received will allow us to develop crucial research that will deliver strategic recommendations for investment managers and social entrepreneurs. The collaboration between the Universidad Austral and the Monterrey Institute of Technology will amplify the impact of the study and open new opportunities for future research.”
In this line of work, Austral reaffirms –once again– its commitment to quality research, the internationalization of knowledge and the search for solutions to the great challenges of the region and the world, through joint work with universities in Latin America.
