In his beautiful work Communitas, the Italian thinker Roberto Esposito establishes the origin of community not in a common “property” of its members but in a “cum-munus”, in a “debt”, from which in good logic community is opposed to in-munity, that which lacks any debt, and that seems to be what politics has become for all of us and almost all those who practice it professionally, a space in, and from which it is not recognized to be indebted to anything or anyone.
