The Faculty of Engineering of the Universidad Austral He participated in the Petrochemical Conference 2024, held on June 4th in the Ceibo Hall at La Rural. This event, organized by the Argentine Petrochemical Institute (IPA), It brought together leading figures in the sector to analyze the challenges and opportunities of the petrochemical industry in Argentina and the region. Throughout the day, conferences, panel discussions, and technical presentations were held on crucial topics such as technological innovation, environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, industrial safety, and current regulations.

In a conversation with Gabriel Rodríguez Garrido, executive director of the IPA, he shared with us the importance of organizing these types of events: “It is a meeting space where we try to carry out everything we do during the year, in the committees and in the needs that we see that the industry has and we put them to debate, always with some thematic focus: this year it is the development of the sustainable industry.”
Furthermore, he highlighted the fundamental role the petrochemical industry plays in the Argentine economy: “96% of the goods produced have some chemical/petrochemical component in their DNA. We participate in all industries and have a responsibility to be part of the solution in the transition to a more sustainable world. Chemistry is present in renewable energies, lithium extraction, and the world's energy transformation.”
The alliance between the Faculty of Engineering of the Universidad Austral And the IPA is consolidating itself as an example of successful collaboration between university and industry. As a result of this joint work, the following has been developed: Diploma in Petrochemical Business, a training program that has been a resounding success with five editions and 150 graduates.
“This Diploma program has become a beacon of training not only for Argentine industry, but for the regional industry as well. For anyone who wants to learn, specialize, or enter this challenging and exciting industry, the best way to do so is through this Diploma program.”Gabriel comments.
Roberto Carnicer, director of the Energy Institute of the Universidad Austral and director of the new Diploma in Emissions Reduction Management, moderated the panel "Emissions Reduction", where strategies to mitigate the environmental impact of the industry were discussed.

The panel included Rolando G. Valverde, a member of the Argentine Chamber of Chemical and Petrochemical Industries (CIQyP), and Mariela Beljansky, Undersecretary of Energy Transition and Planning. Topics discussed ranged from the roadmap for reducing emissions in the industry to emissions rights and carbon capture strategies.
As part of its commitment to training professionals to meet the challenges of the energy future, the Faculty of Engineering of the Universidad Austral presents the new Diploma in Emission Reduction Management. This postgraduate program is designed to provide professionals with the necessary tools to understand and manage the challenges of decarbonization in the petrochemical industry.
The Diploma program covers topics such as:
This postgraduate program is designed for professionals from various sectors. The program lasts 10 weeks and features national and international faculty.
