Panel: Disability and Education

In September 2024, the Institute of Family Sciences of the Universidad Austral A congress was held in which the School of Education (EEDU) participated. Karina Brahim, Director of Studies and Extension at EEDU, moderated the panel on Disability and Education. The event addressed disability as an evolving concept and highlighted the importance of eliminating physical and attitudinal barriers. Specifically, in educational terms, the need to adapt content to stimulate students and foster openness, acceptance, and support was discussed. The "Student Citizen Program," which aims to promote effective inclusion, was presented, and the barriers that still exist within the education system were explored in depth. Finally, an experience was shared regarding the creation of a community service that supports people with psychosocial disabilities by building a community dedicated to creating transitional employment opportunities that facilitate their entry into the competitive job market.

Full inclusion remains a challenge, both in terms of educational policies, school infrastructure, curriculum adaptation, and human and technological resources.
