With a pedagogical and humanistic approach, the School of Education of the Universidad Austral In the province of San Luis, the Diploma in Artificial Intelligence for Teaching and Innovation in the Classroom was launched, a pioneering proposal that is already projected as a model for teacher training at the federal level.

The start of the course, on March 26, marks a milestone in the Argentine education system: more than 10.600 teachers enrolled in this unprecedented initiative, promoted within the framework of the “IAula: Innovation in the Classroom” program, developed together with the Ministry of Education of San Luis and the University of La Punta.

Given the magnitude of the call, the program began with an initial cohort of 5.000 students—including the governor of the province—and the opening of a second cohort, which will begin in August, was confirmed, with the aim of guaranteeing access to all those registered.

An academic proposal with a federal vocation

In a context where technological transformation redefines educational scenarios, the Universidad Austral He took on the challenge of academically leading a proposal that seeks to lay the foundations for a national policy of teacher training in artificial intelligence.

The project is based on a clear conviction: the integration of artificial intelligence in education requires a rigorous, ethical and person-centered pedagogical approach that strengthens the role of the teacher as a key actor in the educational process.

The Dean of the School of Education, Santiago Bellomo, highlighted the exploratory nature of the field:
“The concept has burst onto the educational scene and still leaves us somewhat perplexed; the idea is to understand what it is about, investigate its potential and also recognize the risks that are evident.”

He also emphasized that the diploma program accompanies a phenomenon that is in full development:
"Like any instance involving AI, this diploma program is a first approach in a field whose conceptual basis continues to evolve."

Learning by doing: challenges and collective construction

One of the program's distinctive features is its practical and collaborative approach. With around 120 tutors from the Universidad AustralThe diploma program is organized around pedagogical challenges that invite teachers to design, experiment and reflect on the use of artificial intelligence in the classroom.

This dynamic allows not only the critical appropriation of tools, but also the construction of a collective repository of good practices, based on real experiences documented by the participants themselves.

“The key is the reservoir of experiences that will be generated from the shared productions. It is a long-term process: starting, sustaining, and accumulating learning,” Bellomo noted.

The proposal combines massive scale with personalized support, through academic tutoring and spaces for exchange between teachers, in a virtual format with practical instances and a duration of six months.

A new language for the teaching profession

The coordinator of the diploma program, Alejandra Vatrano, highlighted the cultural dimension of the change that education is undergoing:
“Today, artificial intelligence has ceased to be a trend and has become a new cultural language. Teachers not only need to understand how it works, but also learn to integrate it with pedagogical criteria, ethics, and a didactic approach.”

In this sense, he emphasized that AI training implies a redefinition of the teaching role:
“It allows us to move from being passive users of tools to designers of AI-powered learning experiences. Training in this field is not about incorporating technology, it's about expanding our professional capabilities to teach better in the present.”

Vatrano also praised the response of the educational community:
“The reception has been deeply inspiring. You can feel the joy, motivation, and enthusiasm for being part of this Diploma program. For many, it represents an opportunity to improve themselves, stay up-to-date, and continue to elevate their practice.”

Access, scale and impact

The diploma program is free, online, includes practical components and offers professional development credit for teachers, and is aimed at educators at all levels—Early Childhood, Primary, Secondary, Youth and Adult Education, and Teacher Training. Furthermore, it includes providing each participant with a computer during the course to ensure equitable access.

The Ministry of Education of San Luis highlighted that the choice of the Universidad Austral It responded to the need for education specialists who were also experts in artificial intelligence, capable of translating technology into concrete and applicable pedagogical proposals in the classroom.

The launch in San Luis thus marks the starting point of a model with a federal focus. In a constantly evolving global scenario, the Universidad Austral It reaffirms its commitment to academic innovation, continuous teacher training, and the building of knowledge in service of education with social impact.
