Presentation of Universidad Austral Editions: Meeting with Professors and Researchers.
Recently, the presentation of Universidad Austral Editions (UAE)The event brought together prominent members of our university's academic community. The hosts included the Vice-Rectorate for Research, represented by Juan Bautista Etcheverry; the Editorial Board, composed of Julio Durand, Andrés Sánchez Herrero, and Damián Fernández Pedemonte; and the Press's Management, headed by Miguel Rapela and Andrés Arla. Professors from various academic units also attended, both in person and online.
Juan Bautista Etcheverry emphasized: “It is great news for the university to launch this initiative, which aligns with our proposed vision for 2028. Among the core elements of that vision is 'to be recognized in the region for the generation, transfer, and communication of knowledge.' Clearly, this initiative contributes to this objective and is welcome, not only because it strengthens the university's work in general, but also because it supports our short-term goals.”
Furthermore, Etcheverry highlighted the relevance of this publishing house for teachers at the Universidad Austral: “I take off my hat as Vice-Rector for Research and put on my professor's hat; having a university press is a great advantage for us. I think it will make our work much easier.”
Damián Fernández Pedemonte explained the benefits that the publishing house offers to professors, mentioning how Academic Units can promote the publication of books. “Among the possibilities is holding competitions, both for completed books and for book projects. For example, there are competitions in which the description, the index and a chapter are submitted, and if you win, you are given time to finish the project.”
For his part, Andrés Sánchez Herrero spoke about marketing, highlighting that the books of Universidad Austral Editions are now available on major digital platforms worldwide.
Finally, Miguel Rapela detailed the three key stages for publication. And Julio Durand closed the presentation by emphasizing that the publisher's central mission is “To fulfill the mission of the university, to influence society and contribute to its development through a channel as important as books, which remain relevant.”
