The picture is clear: the changes in Argentina's population over the last 20 years pose significant challenges. One of the most visible changes is the decline in the birth rate, which has fallen below replacement levels. While in 2001 it was estimated at 2,1 children per woman, the latest census, conducted in 2022, determined that this figure had dropped to 1,4 children. Another key finding is the increase in life expectancy. Thirty years ago, there were 29 people aged 65 or older for every 100 people aged 0 to 14. Today, there are 53 or more per 100. This suggests a scenario in which, in the coming years, the population pyramid will invert: there will be more older adults than children. This is according to a recent report presented by the Observatory of Human Development and Vulnerability of the Institute of Family Sciences.
