IX Meeting of Philosophy and History of Science of the Southern Cone (Los Cocos, Córdoba). They participated in a Round Table entitled “The Difficulties of an Epistemology of Pain: First- and Third-Person Perspectives,” where the scope of the naturalistic and phenomenological views of human pain were discussed. The meeting, which brought together more than two hundred specialists, is organized by the Association of Philosophy and History of Science of the Southern Cone (AFHIC) and takes place every two years on a rotating basis in one of the countries that make it up.

Both professors of the Universidad Austral They participated in a roundtable discussion entitled “The Difficulties of an Epistemology of Pain: First- and Third-Person Perspectives.” The study of pain generates epistemological complexity because its diverse facets demand a multifaceted approach: physical-biological, psychological, sociological, and cultural. In this sense, the distinction between first- and third-person perspectives is relevant, as it allows us to move beyond reducing pain to its biological dimension—a reduction that is theoretically insufficient and therapeutically ineffective. During the roundtable, the twofold limitation of this naturalistic paradigm was examined, along with the notion of one's own body as a possible explanation for the aforementioned dual perspective.
