Research stay at Oxford

Throughout the month of July, Dr. Ignacio Silva, a researcher at the Institute of Philosophy, carried out a research stay at the Faculty of Theology and Religion of the University of Oxford, where he had the opportunity to meet with former colleagues and friends.

During his stay, Dr. Silva participated in three academic meetings:

1) Science and Belief in Society Annual Conference, at the University of Birmingham, from July 4 to 6, 2019, where he presented a talk entitled “Nineteenth Century Positivist Roots of the Relations between Science and Religion in Latin American";

2) Theodicy and Compassion, at the Ian Ramsey Centre, University of Oxford, from July 18 to 20, 2019, where he presented a paper entitled “Providence as Compassion (or Mercy)";and

3) Bridging the Two Cultures of Science and the Humanities, at Lady Margaret Hall, University of Oxford, from July 4 to 31, 2019, where he lectured on “Science and Religion in the Latin American Context".

Dr. Silva also received an invitation to join the School of Philosophy, Theology and Religion at the University of Birmingham as an Associate Researcher.
