Inflationary spiral: the same old race

For months, the Economy Minister warned that despite the noise generated by a questionable exchange rate, a simple devaluation would be more of a problem than a solution. This theory had already been defended by Central Bank President Miguel Pesce during Silvina Batakis's brief tenure. But this year's drought delivered the final blow to this house of cards, and the resulting acute shortage of reserves prompted the minister-candidate to make itinerant pleas, particularly to the International Monetary Fund. The suggested conditions for loosening the purse strings have already borne fruit this week: there is no more money to finance magical transfers and stretch the budget beyond what is prudent.
