Organized by Center for International Strategies of Governments and Social Organizations (CIG) of the School of Government of the Universidad AustralThe course was attended by 31 officials from 12 Argentine provinces and municipalities and 15 international specialists.
On May 13, the Director General of the CIG, Fernando Straface, the Director of the School of Politics, Government and International Relations, Dr. Alfonso Santiago, and the Director for Argentina of the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI), Luis Scasso, formally opened the executive program “Internationalization as an Engine of Subnational Development”.
The program—developed with support from the OEI—aims to provide key tools to decision-makers across various sectors to leverage the international system and foster development. Over two and a half days, participants will learn strategies to enable subnational governments and social organizations to integrate into the global economy in a way that supports growth.
In its second edition, the course had the participation of public officials and representatives of private sector organizations from the provinces of Chubut, Neuquén, Tierra del Fuego, Mendoza, San Luis, La Rioja, Tucumán, Santiago del Estero, Córdoba, Santa Fe, CABA and Buenos Aires.
The classes were taught by Fernando Straface, director of the CIG; Francisco Resnicoff, Senior Fellow at the CIG; and Agustín Grizia, Mariana Cammisa, and Emiliano Martinez Royano, also fellows at the Center. In addition, top-level experts in the development of projection and integration strategies for public and private institutions from Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia, Ecuador, Spain, and the United Kingdom participated.
The first day of the course featured the participation of Feeroza Patel, Director at London & Partners; Mauricio Rodas, former mayor of Quito (2014-2019), member of the CIG International Council and visiting professor at the University of Pennsylvania; and Matías Battaglia, CIG Fellow and advisor to the Directorate of National Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship of the Argentine Republic.
The second day included Pablo Fernández, Chief of Staff of the General Secretariat of United Cities and Local Governments – UCLG; Marcelo Scaglione, Former Director of the Accession Process of Argentina to the OECD; Fabiana Goyeneche, Director of International Relations and Cooperation of the Municipality of Montevideo; Eduardo Arraiza, Senior Operations Specialist at IDB, and Laureen Montes, Transport Specialist at IDB.
On the third day, Luz Amparo Medina, District Director of International Relations of the Mayor's Office of Bogotá 2020-2023, and Pablo Palomares, Secretary of Regional Integration and International Relations of the Province of Jujuy, participated.
In addition, during the course, two meetings were held with officials from the US Embassy in Argentina (Natalia Cote-Muñoz, Senior Advisor of the Office of the Special Envoy for Subnational Governments, María Cantú-Ramaciotti, Investment and Development Attaché, and Alexis Coleman, Economic Officer) and the Chinese Embassy in Argentina (Sun Yi, Minister Counselor, and Runqi Li, Political Section Officer).
