Writing to understand (also on social media)

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times”: so begins Dickens’s “A Tale of Two Cities,” considered one of the novels with the best opening lines in literary history. The phrase could be applied to present-day Argentina. New steps downward in the economic and social crisis, political uncertainty casting a shadow over the future of democratic coexistence, persistent violence. Personal tragedies are woven into this tapestry of unease. Some posts on social media from those close to the recently deceased model Silvina Luna and the engineer stabbed in Palermo show how words, even on digital platforms, can reveal the spiritual maturity of a person haunted by grief, or the gratitude and love of loved ones.
