Bachelor's Degrees

The Faculty of Law held new graduation ceremonies for undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students.

In the Olivo building on the Campus of the Universidad Austral In Pilar, on May 8th, the graduations of the Master's degrees in Criminal Law, Tax Law and LL.M. of our Law School took place. 

The ceremony was presided over by Dr. Carlos Ignacio de Casas, Academic Secretary of the Faculty of Law. Also present on the dais were Dr. Guillermo Yacobucci, Director of the Department of Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure; Dr. Carlos González Guerra, Deputy Director of the Department of Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure; Dr. Alejandro Altamirano, Director of the Department of Tax Law; María Inés Lasala, Executive Director of the Master's Program in Tax Law; and Dr. Gustavo Abreu, Executive Director of the Master's Program in Law. 

After a few words from the doctor Guillermo Yacobucci addressed the professors, and María del Pilar Basilici, a graduate of the LL.M. with a focus on Constitutional Law, shared her insights with the graduates. The Faculty's academic secretary, Ignacio de Casas, delivered the closing address. 

“Our hope is that the people who work at the University, those who pass through our classrooms, who share the halls of Pilar and Buenos Aires, those who read our research, will not only be better lawyers, better professionals, but better people. It is a very ambitious plan, but we cannot think of less if we want to be faithful to an ideology that has in mind the transcendent destiny of the person, if we want to be faithful to God, ultimately,” said de Casas. 

Furthermore, the following day, Thursday, May 9, the graduations for doctoral degrees in law and master's degrees in Administrative Law, Business Law, Magistracy and Judicial Law, Intellectual Property Law, Civil Law, Labor Law and Labor Relations, and Procedural Law were held.  

The ceremony was presided over by Professor Julián Rodríguez, rector of the Universidad Austral He was accompanied on the stage by: Dr. Manuel García-Mansilla, Dean of the Faculty; Dr. Carlos Ignacio de Casas, Academic Secretary of the Faculty; Dr. Andrés Sánchez Herrero, member of the Faculty's Governing Council and Director of the Doctorate in Law; and Dr. Miriam Ivanega, member of the Faculty's Governing Council and Deputy Director of the Department of Administrative Law. 

First, the titles of Doctors of Law were awarded to Juan Marcos Rougés, Hernán Verly, Pablo Andrés Martínez Zuñiga, Manuel José García Mansilla, Juan Pablo Sterling Casas, Federico Gastón Menéndez and Carlos Ignacio de Casas. 

The Master's degree diplomas in the various disciplines were then awarded. The closing remarks were delivered by Rector Julián Rodríguez. 

Finally, on Friday, May 10th, graduation ceremonies were held for the undergraduate programs in Law, Political Science, and International Relations. This was the twenty-fifth graduating class in Law, while for the other programs it was the sixth. 

The ceremony was presided over by the Vice-Rector for Research of the University, Dr. Juan Bautista Etcheverry. He was accompanied on the dais by the Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Law, Master Celina Cantú, the Director of Studies, Attorney Paz Miatello, the Director of the Bachelor's Degrees in International Relations and Political Science, María de los Ángeles Rodríguez, and the Director of the Law Program, Dr. Fernando María Toller. 

During the ceremony, diplomas of honor were awarded to graduates whose historical average was eight or higher. Dr. Alfonso Santiago, Director of the School of Politics, Government, and International Relations, presented diplomas of honor to Teresa Holmberg, a graduate in Political Science, and Abril Trankels, a graduate in International Relations. For the Law program, the Vice Dean of the Faculty, Celina Cantú, presented diplomas of honor to lawyers Martina Costa, Josefina Piñeiro, and Belén Sorrentino. Additionally, the award for best research paper was presented to lawyer Ignacio Arizu for his work entitled “The Problem of Indeterminate Power: An Internal Analysis of the Inherent Powers of the National Executive Branch.” 

Then the Vice-Rector of Research of the University proceeded to present the awards to the graduates who obtained the best averages in their graduating class.

In the case of the Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, the Diploma of Honor was awarded, along with the Distinction for highest grade point average and the recognition for performance in the Final Degree Project. This last award is given to those graduates who obtained the highest grade and a recommendation for publication of their thesis. With a grade point average of 8.87, the Diploma of Honor, the Diploma for Highest Grade Point Average, and the Recognition for performance in the Final Project, entitled “The Symbolic Construction of the Other During the Armed Conflict in Colombia,” were awarded to María Mosquera Grijalva.

Furthermore, the Gold Medal is awarded to those who, in addition to meeting the requirements for the Diploma of Honor, achieved a cumulative grade point average of 9 or higher during their studies. The Gold Medal was awarded to graduate Santiago Vera García for achieving a grade point average of 9.63.

Likewise, in the Law program, we wish to recognize those students who have excelled among their peers in Public and Private Law, achieving the highest grades. These awards honor the memory of two great jurists whose contributions to Public and Private Law have been so significant in our legal tradition. For this recognition, Dr. Guillermo Borda was invited to present the Dr. Guillermo Borda (Sr.) Award. The Julio César Oyhanarte Award was presented by Dr. Fernando Toller, and the Gold Medal by the Vice-Rector of Research of our University.  

The Lawyer Diploma and Gold Medal, along with the Dr. Julio César Oyhanarte and Dr. Guillermo Borda awards, were awarded to graduate Sofía Alejandra Morán, for having obtained a general average of 9 points with 31 cents in her Law studies.

Finally, the "Recognition of Human Values" award was presented. This award is given to students who have distinguished themselves by demonstrating in their conduct the values ​​that inspire the University and the virtues inherent to a university student, including openness, kindness, responsibility, nobility, camaraderie, and solidarity. This recognition was presented by the Director of Studies, María Paz Miatello, to lawyer Juan José Sundblad.
