Default in agricultural input companies: a wake-up call for the agricultural sector

The agricultural input sales sector is going through a rough patch. Surcos defaulted on a $500 debt, while Los Grobo Agropecuaria and Agrofina have accumulated $100.000 and $400 million in unpaid debts, respectively. The situation of some companies in this link of the agricultural chain has put the entire production sector on alert. “This is a wake-up call about what’s happening; the agricultural business in general is experiencing difficulties, and we’re talking about one of the most dynamic sectors of the Argentine economy,” analyzed Dante Romano, professor and researcher at the Center for Agribusiness and Food at the Universidad Austral.
