The interdisciplinary research week “From Self to Person” was held on the campus of the Universidad Austral from Pilar, from August 6 to 9. The activity began with a presentation by Dr. Claudia Vanney, director of the Institute of Philosophy.

During the week, several activities were carried out aimed at delving deeper into the nature of consciousness, the function and structure of neural networks, and the transition from the notion of self to that of person, from philosophical and scientific perspectives.

Two lectures open to the public were given, with the participation of professors and researchers from seven countries. The first, entitled “How did the personalization of man’s biological matrix occur?”, was presented by Dr. Juan Arana (University of Seville, Spain), who addressed topics related to the nature of consciousness, extensively developed in his book. The unexplained consciousnessThe second lecture was given by Dr. Belén Mesurado (Universidad Austral), with the title “The role of positive and negative empathy in prosocial behavior”, and dealt with prosocial behavior in children and adolescents.

Dr. Alexandre de Pomposo (National Autonomous University of Mexico) led a seminar entitled “Function and Structure of Neural Networks,” which was attended by professors and researchers from several countries. The seminar addressed various issues related to the functioning of neural networks, the dynamic relationship between brain structure and function, the self-organizing nature of the brain, and other topics.
