Umberto Eco advocated for the most economical interpretation of texts, as opposed to convoluted explanations, which he called over-interpretation. After Donald Trump's clear victory in the US elections, analysts' interpretations exploded, attempting to explain—once again—why their predictions failed. While Trump was the favorite, polls predicted a closer race. Once again, the closed circuit of pollsters, major media outlets, and campaign teams distanced politicians from the signals being given by the people. This happened to progressivism in the United States, just as it happened last year in Argentina. Several factors surely influenced the results, but Trump's success cannot be explained solely by Elon Musk's support (just as his 2016 victory cannot be explained solely by the Cambridge Analytica scandal). The lack of a discourse from Kamala Harris that addresses the needs and fears of the population, instead of only waving the flags of abortion and the danger to democracy, constitutes a much more economical explanation for the result of the November 4 elections.
