Professor and researcher Gabriela Fabbro participated in the 6th H Congress as an organizer, moderator, and presenter. Amidst research, debates, and academic networking, an unexpected experience came to reflect the spirit of the event: making it possible for Pedro Almodóvar's latest film, Amarga Navidad , shot in Lanzarote, to be screened for the island's residents.
Researchers and organizers of the H Congress spearheaded efforts with distributors and exhibitors to secure a free, open screening for the residents of Lazarote, many of whom had lent their homes for filming or participated as extras. The screening featured Antxón Gómez, production manager and artistic producer of 17 Pedro Almodóvar films, including this latest one, who then led a discussion with the audience.
“It was a fantastic experience that revealed the importance of cinema for a community. Seeing themselves on screen, recognizing their places, seeing how the locations were transformed was a source of joy for the audience, which also strengthened their sense of belonging,” Fabbro explained.
Regarding the experience, the researcher reflected: "A congress should not only be a space for academic exchange and debate; it also needs to be anchored in practice and, even more so, in the territory where it takes place."
In this sixth edition, Gabriela Fabbro represented FC Austral as president of the Education, Training, and Innovation in Communication panel. She also presented the research project " News about Childhood and Adolescence on Argentine Free-to-Air Television ," conducted in collaboration with UNICEF Argentina, and has been involved in organizing the H Congress since 2021.
“The Congress has become increasingly open to colleagues from our Faculty. Today, professors and students participate with presentations, panels, and research projects, and this has allowed us to strengthen ties with universities in different countries. That's what a congress is for: to open up possibilities, get to know each other, and enrich our knowledge.”
The meeting brought together researchers from Spain, Latin America and other countries to discuss some of the main challenges of contemporary communication, including artificial intelligence applied to research, sustainable audiovisual production, migration and disinformation, scientific communication and new forms of digital interaction.
